Botanica Tinctoria - The role of dye plants in contemporary textile coloring and patterning

Date: Until 17 November, 2024. (Tu-Su:10:00-18:00)

Location: Goldberger Textile Collection, 1036, Budapest, Lajos street 136-138.

Through the work of 15 Hungarian contemporary textile artists, we can get to know the most significant plant and natural textile dyeing and patterning trends. The key to the success of the Goldberger Textile Factory was determined by respect for traditions, innovation and the dictation of trends, from the 18th century blue-dye manufactory to the use of fossil and synthetic raw materials until 1997, when the factory was closed. In contrast, one of the prominent textile innovation trends of the 2020s focuses on the circular economy and the efficient use of resources. Within this, one of his significant research areas is related to natural raw materials. The exhibition presents the techniques of using dyeing plants and covers animal, microbial, fungus-based and bacterial dyeing processes.

The event is open to the public.
