Product Description: The artworks which I propose for Milan Design Week are from a sculpture group (titled 1, 2, 3) inspired by the forms of industrial components. Each piece is about 1x1.5x1.5 metres in size. They seem to be concrete automotive components at first sight, although their size and material suggest they’re not.

Their forms are inspired by concrete industrial elements (like piston engine elements, train wheels, thermostat elements) but these forms were only the starting point of my work. I used their silhouettes but completely moved their centreline, truncating them to create non-existing industrial forms.

I kept the industrial character of forms overall while developing their final state. I was impressed by the intensive functional aesthetics that suggest great strength in this increased size. On the other hand, these sculptures interact dynamically with the space they are placed in, giving birth to new meaning every time.

In 1, 2, 3, the starting point is not recognisable: only the character of industrial design in general was kept. The material also generates new meanings. They are not made of steel, the conventional material of industrial elements, but of polystyrene, a neutral material. The strong monochrome finish simultaneously increases their monumentality and simplicity.

Due to their size and character, they don’t need a plinth, and are placed directly on the floor, emphasising relations between the three elements and the space. In my opinion, these artworks could initiate an exciting dialogue with those tarnished, ageing, iconic spaces.
