Demeter Fogarasi
ABOUT THE BRAND
Demeter Fogarasi is a Budapest based furniture designer with a design-engineer background, aiming to create concept based furniture through experiments. In all of his work emotions play a very important role, blurring the line between art and functionality, resulting in furniture invoking poetry.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Demeter Fogarasi is a two-time Moholy Scholarship recipient, a designer artist, and a furniture designer. He graduated from Budapest University of Technology and Economics and later from Moholy Nagy University of Art. As a scholarship recipient, he spent six months creating furniture in Copenhagen, the home of furniture design, at the Royal Danish Academy, where he laid the foundation for his international recognition as a designer. Demeter's name first became known in 2014 with the introduction of his experimental furniture piece called "Pinsofa 1". The designer sees furniture as objects that populate and bring life to spaces, as well as objects that can be personified. In all of his work emotions play a very important role, blurring the line between art and functionality, resulting in one-of-a-kind furniture. His distinctive furniture showcases his passion for creation and a childlike playfulness. Each piece of furniture tells a unique story, a poem in which the viewer plays a prominent role. His work is characterized by experimentation, blurring the line between artwork and product.
“Design has always been a part of me in some way, yet I have never felt it this close. I like to think of furniture as sort of jewels assigning life to spaces. Each one of them has their own story to tell, in a way they inhabit interiors, where their actual meaning is driven from the spectator.
With my pieces I aim to invoke curiosity, resulting in experiences lasting a lifetime.“
ABOUT THE EXHIBITED OBJECTS
Cactus Table
Cactus Table is a limited edition low table crafted from pure aluminum. The design transcends simple mimicry to become an exploration of form and technique. The table's creation process employs easily accessible 2D manufacturing techniques, ingeniously transforming flat patterns into complex, three-dimensional sculptures. This method infuses the piece with a sense of motion and depth, making it appear almost sculpted. The visual language of Cactus Table can be described as maximalism, not only for its abundant decorative details but also for its clever subversion of minimalism. By extensively utilizing the simple geometric shapes of minimalism, it creates an overwhelming yet harmonious composition.
"The concept behind Cactus Table was to experiment with the transformation of 2D patterns into 3D forms. I aimed to challenge the conventional use of minimalistic shapes, amplifying them into a maximalist aesthetic. The result is a piece that is both visually striking and rich in detail, evoking the intricate beauty of the raw material."
