HommBútor and Forms Design

MATCH – modular furniture collection

When creating their MATCH sofa, the main objective of the team – made up of Varkoly Fiai Kft. and Máté Horváth – was to design a durable, high-quality and multipurpose settee that adheres to the principle of sustainability and is a genuine Hungarian product. Owing to its modularity, the sofa can be extended or rearranged according to the customer’s demands; it is easy to assemble and disassemble, and can be adapted to the room or space it will be put in. The creators of the furniture made sure the sofa was made of environmentally friendly materials: the fillings of the cushions are made of fibre waste generated during the manufacturing process and the seat upholstery is made of secondary raw materials such as PET bottles.

Manufacturer: Varkoly Fiai Kft. , HommBútor

Varkoly Fiai Kft (Varkolyand Sons) was founded in 2002 by wood engineer Zoltán Varkoly and his brother Dénes Varkoly. Having spent five years in Sopron and gaining extensive commercial experience, the siblings decided to extend their business by reviving a family tradition – upholstery design and manufacturing – and adding it to their portfolio. The company has enjoyed considerable success even during the times of economic recession. To translate their accomplishment to facts and figures, their showroom space has grown from 80 m2 to 2,400 m2, they have launched a new brand, HommBútor, to the market, and their products are sold by distributors in twenty partner countries.

Desginer:  Máté Horváth, Forms Design

Máté Horváth teamed up with Sarolta Csoma in 2018 to launch his own studio entitled Forms Design. The designer participated in a mentoring programme run by the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency in the spring of 2019 referred to as “design START” which offered long-term opportunities tailor-made to individual designers. His role is a complex one including developing the complex, preparing for manufacturing, managing the project and following up the product. He believes that opportunities arising from design should be made available for everyone and his design is a proof of that conviction.
