István Dukai
ABOUT THE BRAND
István DUKAI (1987, Zenta, Yugoslavia) is a graphic and visual artist currently living and working in Budapest, Hungary. He is a leading graphic designer and art director for several European based fashion and designer brands. His work can be found in several important private collections. His art is rooted in the geometric tradition, in the philosophy of constructivism, in op-art, but most of all in minimal art. The basic principle of his compositions is reductionism, based on the stylization of natural elements into geometric forms and the varied ways in which these elements are combined. His art merges the sensuousness of fine arts with the complexity of architecture and the systematic approach of design.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITED OBJECT
FORMA V3-2 (Distortion Series)
In this artwork created in 2024, the artist reinterprets the found objects he has discovered through gestures of digital manipulation and physical degradation. The piece is created digitally, blended with traditional, handcrafted printing techniques and materials, generating contrast and duality. This duality highlights an engagement with the boundaries and intersections of cyberspace and reality, as well as digital and human connections. The contrast between dark and light colors and the dense, disruptive lines dominates the composition. These opposing elements do not merely coexist; their interaction is fundamental to the visual language through which the artist expresses tranquility and turmoil, life and death. The artwork can also be understood as a declaration of the inherent beauty of natural, ephemeral materials, underpinned by a strict compositional structure. This structure contrasts with the transient nature of the chosen mediums and alludes to the influence of constructivism in art history.
