SoundWool
ABOUT THE BRAND
The SoudWOOL brand prioritizes the production of natural, chemical-free textile industrial products. Its development directions, which build upon one another, are guided by the thematic research of its founder, Apol Temesi. During the development of the color range for wool acoustic panels, the environmental pollution caused by related industrial processes highlighted a new area for the brand’s innovation.
The thematic research, launched in 2022, began exploring contemporary alternative applications of plant-based dyeing, initially examining the potential of regionally known dye plants. In connection with this, Apol delved into the ecological challenges posed by invasive plant species in the region. The Your Nature project, which investigates the seasonal dye potential of invasive plants, also initiates a professional discourse on linking this ecological phenomenon with the textile industry.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Apol Temesi graduated from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design as a textile designer in 2014. She later pursued a Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA) degree at the MOME Doctoral School, successfully defending her dissertation in the spring of 2022. Her research focuses on restorative, raw material-centered design. As a designer, she specializes in natural, renewable raw materials, aiming to find innovative solutions for utilizing wool residues from the regional textile industry.
Her pioneering development of wool acoustic panels received multiple awards from the Climate-KIC Accelerator program in 2018 and won a prize at the Climate-KIC Retrofit international climate innovation competition in 2020. She is also the founder of the SoundWOOL brand, which was awarded in the BIG SEE Product Design category in 2022. She has been a Homo Faber member since 2024.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITED OBJECT
Your Nature project / Winter
SoundWOOL acoustic panels are interior wall panels designed for sound absorption. Their production is based on proprietary manufacturing technology that upcycles regional textile industry wool waste, reusing the raw material in a sustainable way. The result of this material innovation is a porous, form-retaining material with a distinctive texture, made from 100% upcycled wool. The modular system allows for seamless adaptation to various interior spaces, while the countless pattern variations ensure a unique aesthetic in every setting.
By repurposing local, renewable raw materials, SoundWOOL acoustic coverings provide a sustainable alternative without compromise. They deliver excellent reverberation control while also enhancing overall well-being.
