Zoltán Tombor

ARTIST: Zoltán Tombor

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Zoltán Tombor was born in Budapest, Hungary a long time ago. His father was a colorist-turned-winemaker, his mother a pharmacist, though she is retired now. He also has an older sister Saci, she paints on human faces. When he turned 19, his father wanted him to be a colorist, but he rather played pool, and rode his BMX. It was around this time that he started to develop a budding interest for photography. From the beginning, it made him excited that the camera not only immortalized the details of images, but also helped him to recall his personal feelings present at the moment of taking the picture. Photography appeared to him as emotionally charged. Once he understood how to manipulate, tame and use these emotions residing in the image, he started to work on photo assignments in Budapest. After a few years of self-education and training, he decided to move to Milan, and introduce his work to a wider audience. During this time on a trip back to Budapest, he met Nelli, the most beautiful and intelligent woman ever, and he couldn't help but fall in love. She became his best friend, his partner in crime, and of course his wife. They moved to New York in 2011, then, after 9 years of joy and struggles, they finally returned home to Hungary. Taking pictures is an everyday necessity for him, and he easily moves between his commissions and personal projects as photography is an organic part of his life. Photography is a meditation and a tool to understand himself better, and as such an indispensable particle of his life.
