Hungarian creators will be presented for the first time at Designblok in Prague
As part of one of Central Europe's largest design program series, the Designblok Festival in Prague, the artworks of Hungarian fine artists will be showcased to the public from the 4th to the 8th of October, 2023. The Budapest Select exhibition, a collaboration between the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA) and the Prague Liszt Institute, will feature the works of 15 Hungarian creators. Building on the practice of recent years, the organizers of the 25th-anniversary Designblok anticipate welcoming thousands of industry professionals and visitors to the venue.
HFDA's objectives include increasing the recognition of domestic artists, facilitating export activities, and promoting collaboration opportunities. To achieve these goals, the Agency participates in the Prague Designblok International Design Festival, which is one of the most highly anticipated events in the creative industry and offers a particularly significant opportunity for Central European countries' creators to showcase their work on a regional stage. The theme of the anniversary festival is 'travel' - which also serves as the conceptual thread throughout the entire program series.
Hungarian fine artists are participating in displaying their works under the Budapest Select umbrella brand established by HFDA at Designblok. Following the best international practices, Budapest Select aims to provide greater visibility for domestic brands during international appearances through strong and unified communication while retaining individual characteristics as well.
Designblok traditionally consists of two sections: the Superstudio and the Openstudio. The latter hosts the Budapest Select exhibition in the largest exhibition space of the National Gallery Prague, the Trade Fair Palace. Openstudio serves as the venue for designers, design studios, students, and schools to showcase their exhibitions. It is a contemporary design laboratory where product, fashion, and jewelry designers, graphic designers, and illustrators introduce their work. Budapest Select presents the works of nationally and internationally acclaimed ceramicists and glass designers, sculptors, built around the theme of travel: silicate creations are displayed in wooden crates, uniquely presenting the mode of transporting artworks and drawing an analogy to how we carry our memories of journeys as treasures. The curator of the exhibition is Gáspár Bonta.
The creators were selected based on professional criteria through an application process by a panel of experts. The exhibitors at Budapest Select include Tünde Ruzicska, Debóra Horák, Petra Szondi, Balázs Veres, Lilla Cséfalvay, Ádám Csaba Szabó, Hajnal Gyeviki, Deák Zsuzsanna, Sára Kele, Zsuzsanna Formanek, Bori Segesdi, Kyra László, Anita Monori, Ágnes Smetana, and Attila Kertész.
The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency opens the Budapest Select exhibition in cooperation with the Liszt Institute in Prague, which - operated under the auspices of Hungarian embassies - serves as the foremost intermediary for Hungarian culture, education, and science in the Czech Republic. The Institute celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2023, and on the occasion of this important milestone, it joined the Designblok exhibition in line with its objectives, which include presenting the classical and 21st-century values of Hungarian culture and promoting cooperation between Hungarian and Czech artists and cultural specialists.
A part of the Budapest Select object selection will also be presented at the 360 Design Budapest exhibition, which will be held for the 4th time between the 17th and 22th of October, 2023, in the Adria Palace.
